MANIFESTATIONS:

Seeing that this grand ocean liner has quite a colorful, rich history, it's not surprising that some former, deceased crewmen and passengers have stayed on board.

  1. "Shaft Alley Specter" This apparition has been seen by many people, and has been described as a young man with dark black hair, sporting a beard, and wearing blue-gray overalls. The narrow corridor that leads to the ship's propeller shafts is called Shaft Alley, which has a big, heavy door, numbered 13. Long ago, during a routine, watertight door drill, a young, 18 year old crew member, John Bedder, was crushed to death by this door 13. While a present day night guard and his dog were patrolling Shaft Alley, the dog froze in his tracks, fixating his stare on an invisible presence at door 13, and refused to go through the door.

  2. A tour guide spied a man with a beard, dressed in overalls, coming up the stairs behind her. While she waited for this lost tourist at the top of the stairs, in order to direct him how to get to the exit, he vanished.

  3. The Apparition Helper in the Kitchen: The cooks and busboys of the Queen Mary's eating areas have witnessed a man, dressed as a ship's cook, enter the kitchen and then vanish. They have also seen self-moving dish ware, lights which turn on and off all by themselves, and kitchen utensils that disappear. (This ghostly cook is believed to be the one that was thrown into the ship's oven during a riot, over bad meals, that took place when The Queen Mary was being used as a troop ship.)

  4. The Dedicated Engine Mechanic — A male apparition, donning a white, boiler room uniform, has been spotted working diligently on the ship's engines.

  5. Tour Guide, Patsy L., and her entire tour group, got quite a surprise when a see-through naval officer, in his dress whites, walked by them, when they had entered the swimming pool area.

  6. Security Guards have heard splashing and laughter coming from the empty pool.

  7. In the pool area , and the balcony above it, an apparition of a young female bather in a green bathing suit has been seen by security guards. She likes to go right through the support columns, and can be mischievous, as she once pushed a guard into the pool water. (Over 40 years ago, a young woman drowned in the pool, during one of the many transatlantic crossings of The Queen Mary.)
